Hey there everybody. Welcome back to another episode of brick and mortar visibility, where I help your business stay in business for the next five years.
I am so excited about today's podcast because it's all about mindset and let's be real running a business is like 98% mindset. I was just on a walk this morning with my bestie and we were talking about the crap that goes on in our head. Like we know we are in our own way. And you guys, no matter what stage in business, you are always going to have mindset issues.
We just learned to get better at dealing with them. But today is about the five secrets or traits of really successful people. So this is a little bit tactical, but a little bit mindset. And I love this stuff, but before we dive in a couple things first, a listener, shout out. I do a happy dance.

I'm in my office by myself and praying that people take something away.
So when you guys leave a review, it just means the world, because then I'm like, yay. It's hitting somebody. It makes sense to somebody. So, Kay Ray camp left a podcast review on apple iTunes. She said, Melissa is an amazing individual professional coach that inspires me to be even better version of myself personally and professionally.
I feel extremely lucky and grateful for our paths to have crossed. And you will too. Thank you so much, Kristin. Alright, here we go. We are going to talk about the five secrets of very successful people. We've all seen them. We all have those people in our circle that we look at and we go, oh my gosh, how are they doing it? How, oh my gosh, what is their secret? You guys there's no secret. There's no secret. But I'm going to share with you five traits, five characteristics.
And chances are, you've probably heard these before, but they are so worth repeating and being reminded of in our business. The first one, consistency, I love this one because I am a product of this. I am crazy consistent.
This podcast has been going on for almost two years. Every Wednesday we show up and give you tips, tools, and strategies that I've learned in my business to share with you I've done it with my brick and mortar business with a blog that I started five years ago, and just seen that consistency every two weeks being put out to my community and every time there's money coming back.
Within minutes of pressing publish consistency every day, you are consistent creates every week creates every month, which goes into every year. And the longer that you do something, you guys, the longer you do something, it is the compound effect in all the ways. And your people will trust you quicker because
they have seen you keep going. Okay. The longer you stay in something, the easier it is for somebody to buy, to trust, to refer. So stick with it. And this is where most of us fall off the bandwagon. We try something for a couple months. It's not working a marketing strategy, or you start to save for something.
There's something that pulls your focus and say, oh, I gotta put my money here. Saving for retirement, getting better health, creating a marketing strategy plan that really impacts it takes time and it takes consistency. So daily action, weekly action. Monthly action. Yearly action and consistency. Number one, plays write in to number two in order to be consistent, we need to map it out.
We need to plan it out. Successful people have their day maximized and optimized. You guys, I am doing the 75 hard challenge. All right. I'm telling you for accountability, but I'm also telling you for this point 75 hard. Okay. For those of you that don't know what this is, this is a health challenge really about mindset and discipline.
Aren't they all though? Really? Okay. So in the 75 hard. And I will tell you, it's hard. You do 2 45 minute workouts a day. One has to be outside and I'm a Wisconsin girl. So there's that. Then you have to drink a gallon of water. You have to have a diet of your choice. So whatever diet you want to do, but you have to follow it for 75 days, no cheat days and no alcohol.
You get to take a picture of yourself every day. And then the fifth thing is you need to read 10 pages a day. So for me, I knew I would fail a couple of times. So anytime that you fail, you need to start all over. And I purposely started this challenge about three weeks prior to my start date because I was doing it with a friend.
So we started officially September 13th, but I started three to four weeks prior to that date because I knew I would struggle. Because I like a beer y'all I like to have a beer at the end of the day. And I've had that terrible habit. Well, I don't think it's terrible. It's all in moderation. Right. But I knew that that would be a struggle for me.
I also knew that I needed to block out the time in my calendar to get those to work on. All right. Thankfully, I am self-employed so I control my calendar, but I needed to make sure I blocked out that second workout or I knew it would not get done. So anything that I do is blocked out in my calendar from eating lunch, to picking up kids, to working on behind office stuff like website stuff or behind the scenes back marketing stuff to meetings with clients. I mean, some of that is obvious, right? If you're going to have a meeting with client, you got to put it on your calendar, but how often do you put your workout on your calendar? You just say, oh, I'll get it in.
I'll fit it in. And then you dont. So everything is put in my calendar. Even personal time. I block it out because guess what? It'll get filled in with something else. So I block it out and I say, my time . So in order for me to be consistent with the 75 hard or my marketing strategies, or, meeting with clients or potential clients, I have to plan it out and block it out in my calendar.
So make sure you are doing that. It is not constraining. It is freeing when you do that. Okay. Number three. So the first one is consistency. Number two, plan out your day. Number three, invest in yourself. What the heck does that mean? I struggled with that for so many years. Invest in myself. What do you mean I'm too busy doing the things it's so hard to take that time and go to a workshop or take that class or get in the room with a mentor or coach .
Because it doesn't always reap the benefits within the hour. Right? You may get ideas, but you may not see dollar signs for awhile. And that for me was always the hard part because I was like, I'm investing this money right now and I need to recoup the cost. Plus some money. Okay quickly, but you guys taking the time to invest in yourself consistently back to number one will catapult your business.
When I took the time to go to the conference to invest in the coach to take the course, my business always upleveled. Always and I track it, you know, by keeping track of the numbers of clients and revenue and cost per lead and all that fun stuff by tracking it, I can see black and white numbers. Oh my gosh.
When I did this, my very first conference for my industry, I was a late bloomer y'all cause I did everything myself for so many years, too many years that I finally really took a chunk of change and invested in myself in 2016. And that was super scary. I flew across the country. I took a chunk of change.
I went by myself and I was in with million-dollar business owners and it scared me to death. However, that first huge investment catapulted my business to another level. And since then, I have always consistently been with a coach with a course with a conference I'm always doing it. because I know every time I do it, I up level.
You're not only just getting , the training, but you're being around the people which are connections, which is network, which is growing your credibility in your industry. So every time you get in the room and surround yourself with different people and up-level yourself, you are giving yourself more credibility and you're also rippling out your network.
It's so, so good to do so please do it. All right. Number four, I just talked about taking a chunk and change flying across the country by myself, scarier than all get out. So number four, you do the hard things before your ready. Oh, my gosh, I have to laugh because I just did a webinar a few weeks ago. And this webinar, I shocked myself because.
I was able to give content, for over an hour. And I remember the time when I was like, there's no way I will be able to do a webinar with slides. Like that whole concept of tech scared me. I was like, I don't know what I'm doing. It's going to be messed up. I'm not going to be able to deliver, but you know what I said, I'm going to do a webinar and I just threw it out there.
And. By throwing it out there for me, then I have the accountability to follow through. Okay. Just like with the 75 hard that I just throw out to all of you Now I have to finish it because you guys are going to ask me, right. You're going to DM me and Instagram and say, Hey, how's 75 hard going Miss. So with this the webinar, I'm like, okay, I started just by speaking to the camera, then I'm like, okay, now I'm going to try the slide deck.
Okay. And I have my graphic designer helped me with a slide deck and I practiced, I practice you guys keyword practice. And I did it. And I did my first webinar about two years ago with slides. And then I was like, there, I don't think I could ever do a webinar where I'm talking for an hour and giving content.
And you guys the last webinar I did, it was for an hour. I was like, oh my gosh, I gotta, I gotta close this up. I gotta wrap this up. But it was filled with content and stories and client testimonies. And I felt good about it. And it was so much a stepping up. Right. And it's because a couple of years ago I said, I'm going to do a webinar.
And every time I've done it, I've gotten better and more confident and added more tech elements to it. So I did it before I was ready. The same thing for speaking, getting up in front of audiences, what are you doing that you are doing before you're fully ready and here's the dirty little secret.
A lot of people will be like, oh, I need to do live video. And I'm so scared. And I'm going to say, do the freaking live video because chances are, nobody's gonna watch you. So you don't really fail because not that many people watched you. But you did it. And then you're going to keep showing up and doing it consistently.
So we all get so wrapped up with like, oh my gosh, I'm going to look stupid or I'm not going to sound intelligent or, oh my gosh, the tech aspect, but you guys nobody's watching the first couple. So get out there try it. And do it and then show up consistently do it before you're ready, because I guarantee by the fifth video or the 10th blog post, or the 20th webinar, you are going to be worlds ahead than you were for the first time.
And guess what? There's going to be a lot more people watching when you get to that level. So now on to number five, And this one we all can take to the bank. And that is, we are not worried about what other people say or think. We are entrepreneurs. So you already are brave women.
You are super bold, brave showing up big because you're opening up a brick and mortar. You already are putting so much out there. So when somebody says something or somebody comments, you are bigger than that, and stronger than that, and we don't care because we are so passionate about what we're doing.
. So we show up, even though we don't have the following, even though we don't always have the numbers coming in our doors, we show up anyway. And I'm going to say a little caveat here. You're also going to track it so that you know, what's working. So when you show upconsistently, and you do the hard things before you're ready and you don't care what other people say, you are going to have momentum,
and then you're going to be a smart business owner and you're going to track behind the scenes. So that way you have the confidence with the black and white numbers to know what's working so that you can lean into it more so these are the five secrets of successful people. You guys, number one, you are going to be consistent.
Number two, you are going to look at your calendar and make sure everything is in there. So you are not wasting time and you are making money and everything you do has a point and a purpose. All right, number three, you are investing in yourself. You're reading the books, you're going to the conferences.
You're getting that coach. Number four, you do the hard things before you're ready. You raise your hand and step in and say, I'll do it. And you go for it. And you get that accountability person, your coach, your mentor, your business bestie, and say, I'm going to do this and watch the momentum takeoff. And number five, you don't care what people say because you are doing what you are meant to do.
